    Trish Powell asked:

In a perfect world we would all be eating the right food, exercising, sleeping well and just generally enjoying life.

In the real world most of us manage a percentage of the healthy lifestyle and muddle through as best we can with the rest of it. Part of the problem is we are encouraged to think, mostly by the media, that we should be doing everything possible towards a healthy lifestyle, all of the time. For most of us this is just not possible.

Constant concern about what we should or shouldn’t be doing causes our stress levels to go up and that negates any good work that we’ve done. Yes, we should certainly try for a healthy lifestyle, but the two key words are “moderation” and “balance” By applying these criteria to achieving a healthy lifestyle we won’t be beating ourselves up for failing another diet or dropping out of the latest exercise regime.

A common mistake that many people make when they decide to adopt a healthy lifestyle is to try to do too much too soon. They then give themselves a guilt complex when it all falls apart. It is also easy to be influenced by others, when we should only be adopting a healthy lifestyle plan to suit ourselves.

Ah! Did I say lifestyle plan? Do you have one, or do you just try the next thing that is in your magazine or Sunday supplement? By all means read these articles and take them into account as you plan how you want your healthy lifestyle to take shape.

Leading a healthy lifestyle doesn’t mean you have got to run a mile before breakfast, eat seeds and think pure thoughts. Great if that’s what you want, but for most of us “healthy” means being in reasonable shape, eating our fruit and vegetables and generally having a feeling of vitality.

Decide on your definition of a healthy lifestyle, and then plan a strategy that works for you.

As part of my health plan I decided I wanted to walk in the mornings before breakfast, but there was no way I wanted to get up at the ***** of dawn to do it. So I planned a ten minute circuit that includes a short flight of steps and a not too steep incline. I power walked that route every day and felt really good. Sure l wouldn’t make the City to Surf marathon, but I compromised and made it work for me.

Today, much is made of organic foods, but the reality is that organic food is generally more expensive and well out of the range for most budgets. Yes organic is probably the best option, but it doesn’t mean that if you’re not eating all organic you are not eating right. If you’re concerned about general produce, be a bit discerning when you shop. Look for fruit and vegetables that are fresh and unblemished. You should also buy product brands that you can trust. If you shop wisely, you can have a well-balanced healthy diet that won’t break the bank.

Basically living a healthy life means looking at your lifestyle as a whole, it is not just about diet and exercise. It is not always necessary to make major changes. Most people know their weak spots, and are happy if they can make a few changes that show results.

A friend of mine was drinking several cans of soft drink a day. She was feeling tired and generally under the weather. When I read an article about the health risk of soft drink I copied it and gave it to her, whereupon she decided to give up the soft drink there and then. A week later she got back to me and said she couldn’t believe the difference, her energy levels were up and she was feeling great. Just that one change was able to make a difference and she feels good about the healthy choice.

Sleep and leisure time play a big part in a healthy lifestyle, and for the most part people underestimate the value of good sleep. Our bodies aren’t designed to operate at peak performance twenty four hours a day. Anyone in industry knows that machines that have to work continuously need a lot of maintenance. When we are sleeping our body is healing and regenerating itself and we should wake up feeling refreshed and revitalized.

We can go without sleep for extended periods, but we can’t do it indefinitely. The amount of sleep an individual needs varies a great deal, and there is no such thing as the right time to sleep. Obviously most people sleep at night, but if you are one of those folk that comes alive in the small hours, you might need to catch up with your sleep during the day.

A big part of healthy living is being comfortable with yourself. Don’t be pressured into trying to attain a certain look, or push yourself down a career path you are not suited to. Constant worry about what you are doing will only have the opposite effect on your health. Don’t get paranoid about your diet, about what toothpaste you should use or about expensive exercise equipment you need to buy.

Allow a common sense approach to dictate when you are making lifestyle choices, and remember, there is nothing wrong with compromise if it means your healthy lifestyle plan will work for you.

    Joe Goertz asked:

For years medical professionals have been claiming that what a person eats directly affects how long they will live. Those who incorporate natural foods that are low in fat into their diet are leading a much healthier lifestyle than someone who frequents a fast food restaurant.

People who live a healthy lifestyle sometimes need to give up convenience for the sake of eating healthier. This seems to be changing in recent years. Many fast food restaurants are recognizing this trend towards a healthy lifestyle and are now adding alternative food choices to their menus.

One of the drawbacks of many of the fast food chains is that the items are very high in fat. For a person struggling with their weight or watching their heart health it can be a challenge to find menu items that they can eat.

In recognition of the healthier lifestyle their customers want companies are now offering items like salads, yogurt and low fat muffins. For a parent taking their child to a burger and fries joint this now means that they won’t have to forego their healthy lifestyle while they eat there. They can enjoy a salad with low calorie dressing while their youngsters enjoy what they like.

Diet is only one ingredient in living a healthy lifestyle. Another important component is exercise. Exercise plays an integral part in reaching and maintaining a healthy body weight.

Adding an exercise regime to your life is a great step towards a healthier lifestyle. Using this time to burn calories and build your muscles will ensure that your body is getting the movement it needs.

In today’s busy world many people don’t feel that they can live a healthy lifestyle. They complain that it takes too much time and energy. Another common complaint is that pursuing a healthy lifestyle is expensive. Adding fresh fruits, vegetables and fish to their lifestyle diet plan adds a cost that many people don’t see the value in.

You don’t have to join a gym to get exercise. If you tend to drive to the store and it’s close enough to walk to, than choose the walk. This is an example of changing your lifestyle in a small way that actually will lead to big results.

Everyone can make some change in their lifestyle that will lead to healthier choices. Instead of picking up a bag of potato chips, eat an apple. When you are craving a candy bar, put on your walking shoes and take a stroll.

Perhaps the biggest benefit of living a healthy lifestyle is that you are teaching your children how to do the same. Children who are raised in an environment that encourages a healthy lifestyle will carry that through their adult lives.

The term lifestyle was originally coined by Austrian psychologist Alfred Adler in 1929. The current broader sense of the word dates from 1961. In sociology, a lifestyle is the way a person lives. A lifestyle is a characteristic bundle of behaviors that makes sense to both others and oneself in a given time and place, including social relations, consumption, entertainment, and dress. The behaviors and practices within lifestyles are a mixture of habits, conventional ways of doing things, and reasoned actions. A lifestyle typically also reflects an individual’s attitudes, values or worldview.

Having a specific “lifestyle” means engaging in a characteristic bundle of behaviors that makes sense to both others and the self in different times and places. Therefore, a lifestyle can be used to forge a sense of self identity and to create cultural symbols for the way a person is. The behaviors and practices within lifestyles are a mixture of habits, conventional ways of doing things, and reasoned actions.

At Lifestyles, our exercise specialists are certified by the American Council on Exercise as Personal Trainers. They provide professional supervision of all fitness activities and services, and design individualized programs for people of all ages with diverse fitness goals: healthy adults, post-cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation patients, deconditioned and unconditioned adults, and adolescents desiring high-intensity sports conditioning programs. Lifestyles is dedicated to health, nutrition and the betterment of your life. We research, develop and manufacture the highest quality natural health, nutrition and body care products and make them available through thousands of Independent Distributors worldwide.

Lifestyles keeps you informed about the latest in health and nutrition, encourages personal and family growth, community contribution, and can even provide financial security for those interested in their own part-time or full-time business. As a Lifestyles Independent Distributor, you are a self-employed businessperson, working with Lifestyles but not for Lifestyles. Indian lifestyles clearly glorify the geography. The food, clothing and habits of an Indian differ in accordance to the place of origin.

UTI India Lifestyle Fund (UTI-ILF) is a 3-Yr close-ended fund with an automatic conversion into an open-ended scheme at the end of the stipulated tenure. The fund seeks to capitalise on the opportunities emerging from the changing Indian demographics, lifestyles and rising consumption pattern. By limiting itself to lifestyle-related sectors, the fund stands to lose out on investment opportunities in other sectors/themes like infrastructure, banking, finance (particularly industrial finance) and software. Although, the fund does have a provision to invest a portion of assets in such sectors, the bulk of its investments will be in lifestyle-related sectors.

In public health, “lifestyle” generally means a pattern of individual practices and personal behavioral choices that are related to elevated or reduced health risk. Since the mid-1970s, there has been a growing recognition of the significant contribution of personal behavior choices to health risk—in the United States thirty-eight percent of deaths in 1990 were attributed to tobacco, diet and activity patterns, and alcohol. Equally important, illnesses attributable to lifestyle choices play a role in reducing health-related quality of life and in creating health disparities among different segments of the population.

I realise it has little to do with animal consumption but rather a healthy lifestyle. I’m a vegetarian and straight edge, just curious on your guys thoughts.
Shaif, I beg to differ. I think it’s a moral and lifestyle choice.
I am well aware of what straight edge means, thanks for your input but I believe your arguement is pointless.

If I am someone who is sXe and compare my health to someone who is an abuser or just a user of recreational drugs and alcohol then I am very likely to be healthier than them due to the damage those things do to your body.
Abstaining from letting those things have the potential to damage my body would surely make me a healthier person than if I were one of those mentioned right?

Yes. Oh yeah, I always thought it was pwned.
Shaif, you offer a good arguement. Thank you.

However I have a few points to make. I agree with you that people who drink, use drugs [for pain] or have casual *** in moderation still have the ability to be healthy. I did mention in my last post that ‘recreational drugs’ were the things which cause damage to your body. These are the drugs which do not occur naturally and therefore give you an artificial and only momentary feeling of relief. I never said anything about *** having a negative effect on the body. I actually believe it is a more loosley held value within the sXe community now as times have progressed. As for alcohol being good for the body, its the same arguement as saying eating meat every week is good for the body. There are other options. Yes this lifestyle choice seems to be dominated by moral issues. Generally I believe this abstinence from drugs and alcohol is beneficial to ones health as they are not using anything which may have the potential to damage their body

I live in the UK and all my life a great proportion of the tv shows we watch are american and the general lifestyle portrayed (even that of the average man) seems somewhat gloryfied of what it should be. This is either how it just is, or the media is just as false as people say.

I’m saying this as its really quite hard to get a true image of what its like over there. As our tv shows (i’m talking ALL tv) do give out a rather true depiction.

Marketing Through Service - Invest In Yourself for a Rich Lifestyle

Do you ever fantasize about living a rich lifestyle? Do you consider the people you know or read about, that lead such a life, are just plain lucky?  I am sure most people today would love to have a rich lifestyle but feel it is out of reach. How could you create such wealth in your lifetime to afford you this magical life? The answer might be easier than you think.

First of all you need to clearly define what your rich lifestyle would consist of. Forget about the money for the moment, and describe in as much detail as you can, what it is you would like and to do in this lifestyle. You see everyone has a different way they would live a “Rich Lifestyle”. Not everyone wants a Rolls-Royce, Rolex, large yacht, private plane and several homes around the world. People are different and do not necessarily want the same things. For some people, to have a nice home, beautifully furnished in the city and neighborhood of their dreams, with there dream car and well paying job is in fact living a rich lifestyle.

Once you have a clear picture of your rich lifestyle, you can then layout the plan that will help you attain it. This is ware the “Invest in Yourself” part comes in. It has to start with your job, the work that you do, the career you have chosen and the company that pays you for doing it. If you are not happy with the above, you must decide on what part or parts you are going to have to change. Remember most companies pay for what the job is worth, not the one who is doing it. Every job has a salary or grid range with a minimum and maximum dollar amount. So if you are not getting paid what you feel you are worth, you have to find a job that; you like and can do very well and pay you what you are worth. “People rarely succeed unless they have fun in what they are doing”. Andrew Carnegie.  Often in order to get what you want, you have to invest in a plan, a road map showing you the steps required in order to accomplish your rich lifestyle. If getting ahead requires a career or job change, this is where your energy should be focused.

If you don’t know where you are going, ultimately you will end up someplace else. Your plans have to be clearly detailed in everyway, and if you can’t do it, pay to have it done for you. Get a coach, someone that will help you and keep you on track.

Invest in yourself. Your plan should have a timetable, one that lets you know how you are doing, and a plan, where you can check off the steps and make any necessary changes along the way. This strategy will work! Think for a moment on just one thing that you really wanted in your life, the one thing you thought about everyday. Then relive the moment when you finally got the thing and how good you felt. You will experience the same feelings again when you discover you are leading a “Rich Lifestyle”.

    The Choice is Yours!

As a single person journeys along the pathway of life they have to continuously make choices which will ultimately lead them to, or affect their destiny. In this article I want to look at the lives of some single people and review their choice of lifestyle and its impact on their future. We will look at the choice, consequence and the cure for each lifestyle.

Lifestyle 1: One foot in one foot out

The Choice: James is a new Christian and truly loves God but also he truly loves some of the things he used to do. Before he became a Christian he particularly enjoyed ***. Now he cannot imagine how it is possible to have a relationship that is “God’s Way”!

The Consequence: He may be the father of many babies. He may get a Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) and he may experience feelings of guilt and frustration, as he is torn between lifestyles, trying to give up one for the other. The most dangerous Consequence of all is spiritual death.

The Cure:      2 Corinthians 5:17 – James needs to remember he is a new creature

Ephesians 4:22-24 – He needs to put off what is of the old man

In short: face the challenge, think it through, and make that change!

    Lifestyle 2: Dress to Tease

The Choice: June loves wearing the latest fashions. She has gone beyond the boundary of the decent into the scanty. She has made up her mind – she will not be an old maid! Therefore she thinks the less she puts on, the more the chances of her being picked.

The Consequence: She will not be taken seriously, and if approached at all, it will be for the wrong reasons. She has made herself a prey for abuse and/or misuse by the wrong man.

The Cure:      1 Timothy 2:9a – June can get a few tips on dressing here

1 Peter 3:3 – She needs to find her true value

Proverbs 31:25 – The secret to dressing well

In short: dress well, add value to your life and you will be found by a Boaz!

    Lifestyle 3: The Superficial

The Choice: Byron has chosen to focus on the superficial things of life. His second name is Bozo. He enjoys presenting himself as a man of substance but really he is shallow. In depth discussions scare him…after all he might be discovered.

The Consequence: A shallow relationship. An empty lifestyle. A superficial friendship.

The Cure:      Matthew 10:16 – Byron is a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

1 Samuel 16:7 – Listen to the Lord, he knows the inside

James 1:8 – You do not want to join your future to instability!

In short: spot him/her… and run for your life!

    Lifestyle 4: No Hope

The Choice: Jane did not actually choose to get to this point but because she allowed the cares of life to dictate her emotions, she has now lost hope. Due to no one having spoken to her in five years she can’t see the point in taking care of herself. Doing her hair or makeup is a no-go area.

The Consequence: Whilst inner beauty is of great importance, outside appearance is often assessed first. Other consequences include depression and discouragement as the perpetuation of not being asked continues. Low self-esteem can also manifest as the desire to meet a person is not met.

The Cure:      Job 14:14 – Jane needs to keep on waiting patiently for there is an appointed time. If Job had his, she will have hers

Romans 4:21 – God is not a man that He should lie, He is faithful to His word concerning her life

In short: focus on the now and develop self on the way to where you are going

    Lifestyle 5: Commitment Phobic

The Choice: Maggie has not been able to close the door on a yesterday relationship. She meditates on it and thinks through it again and again. She does not want to try again for fear of another break up. She claims she is married to Jesus and wants all the ‘satans’ to leave her alone.

The Consequences: She is unable to commit to anyone and because of her fear of involvement many suitors have emotional scars for having dated her. She has become bitter and nothing can make her come out of her fortified tower.

The Cure:      Hebrews 12:15 – Free yourself of bitterness, it destroys you and those around

Ephesians 4:23 – Let yesterday die and allow your spirit to be renewed

In short: yesterday is in the grave, tomorrow is in the womb, so seize today and make it count.

    Lifestyle 6: Steadfast

The Choice: Joseph is confident on the way to where he is going. He knows he has milestones on the journey and is following his targets one by one. He is a good friend to all, enjoys the atmosphere of worship and serves faithfully in Church. The commitment to God he shows in church is the same at home, where he prays and seeks to know God for himself.

The Consequences: As he walks with the Lord, at the appropriate time, he will see, be seen and propose to the perfect will of God for his life. He will have prepared for her arrival and she will be the Queen of his house, a support to him. Should any difficulty arise, they will both go to the manufacturer – the source who brought them together – God.

The Cure?      None prescribed, this is where we all desire to be.

In short: With God as the third person in their relationship, they will live happily ever after!

So now shall we say:   The Choice is yours!

                                        To rejoice or to cry

To lift your head up or to bow

To live or to just exist

To live a dream or to live a lie

Seize the day, choose God’s way
